CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, SEPTEMBER 18, 2023 – Our LifeSpice team is thrilled to welcome Renan Lopes to the R&D team as a Research Chef based in our Chicago Headquarters. Renan comes to us with years of culinary experience in restaurants around the world, most recently at the renowned Mon Ami Gabi in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood.
Renan’s family and upbringing played a big role in his desire to become a chef: his mother is a French Foreign Affairs Officer, and his father is a pastry chef. Between learning about French cooking and watching his father work tirelessly for his own business, Renan quickly developed an interest in food and culinary cultures. He also spent time traveling all around the world as he was growing up, immersing him in different cuisines from a young age. He then began his career studying culinary arts in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and trained in traditional French baking techniques at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris. In addition to Renan’s time as Executive Sous Chef at Mon Ami Gabi, he has also worked at Spirit Elephant in Winnetka and 2-Michelin star La Société in Paris. Renan loves constantly learning more about the foods of the world. His favorite cuisine to explore is Japanese because of the cuisine’s vast regionality and the dedication to incredible quality.
At LifeSpice, Renan joins the R&D and Culinary teams where he will conduct culinary research, help develop trend presentations, and formulate seasonings. Renan is curious to learn about this different side of the food industry and is most interested in how complex flavors and ideas become marketable seasonings.
